Bright One to Boost Refugee Week’s Simple Acts Campaign

Bright One, the volunteer-run communications agency for third sector organisations, today announced that it will be working with Refugee Week, a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.

Core Facts

  1. Bright One will provide communications support for the Simple Acts campaign, which aims to inspire individuals to use small, everyday actions to change perceptions of refugees. The campaign consists of 20 actions that can be done by anyone and that encourage people to learn and do more with refugees.

  2. Every year during Refugee Week hundreds of events are organised across the UK. In 2008, there were over 400 small and large events, ranging from big music festivals and art exhibitions to political debates, film screenings, conferences, school activities, sports and community events. Quotes

“Simple Acts is a fantastic campaign and we’re looking forward to making the most of our expertise to get everyone up and down the country doing their bit to support refugees. There are many different elements to the campaign, so we plan to use this to our advantage and reach out to different organizations in different ways according to which Simple Act would suit them.”

Ben Matthews, Founder of Bright One

“With every person who joins the campaign and does a small thing with and for refugees, we get a little closer to removing barriers between communities and to creating the kind of world we all want to live in. We’re looking forward to working closely with Bright One to get as many people as possible supporting refugees in the UK through the Simple Acts campaign.”

Almir Koldzic, Refugee Week UK Co-ordinator

Company information

Bright One is a volunteer-run communications agency for the third sector. Bright One was established to solve two problems: third sector organisations get professional communication services at a low cost and inexperienced PR and communications people get the skills and mentoring they need from seasoned professionals. Bright One’s profits are reinvested, allowing the organisation to grow and support its volunteers, as well as subsidise third sector organisations that otherwise might not benefit from professional PR and communications services.
